In the original M&B, it took quite a bit of Archery skill leveling before 1- or 2-hit kills were possible.

The effectiveness of ranged weapons has been improved, specifically with regards to their damage potential.

Increasing the "Polearms" skill slightly reduces this cooldown time. After a couched lance hit, there is a cooldown timer in which time your lance cannot be re-couched.

Lance couching can still be performed either by building up speed and waiting for the lance to drop alternatively, the control scheme may be changed to "Manual" couching, where the lance drops at button-press (default "X").
