The newest title in the series, though, Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword, takes place in Eastern Europe in the 17th century. Warband is fun but it takes place in a made-up land. I had so much fun with it that I bought the complete set of Mount & Blade titles before the free time was even up. I vaguely recalled seeing the title somewhere else and thinking it might be interesting, so I downloaded it. jarids and throwing spears act as spears, throwing axes can be used for hand-to-hand combat, and throwing knives can be used as daggers.Who knew being a Cossack would be so much fun?Ī couple of weekends ago, I was on Steam deciding which game to play, when I noticed that something called Mount & Blade: Warband was free to play for the weekend. In this mode, throwing weapons can be used like their melee counter parts, e.g. However, they can be switched into "melee" mode via button-press (default "X").

Hold down the fire button to draw/load/lift and release to throw. In their default ranged mode, they operate like archery.

  • Throwing weapons now have two "modes" of usage.
  • Which means the arrow will fly diagonally away from you. Compensate accordingly.
  • Horse archery uses a more sophisticated physics system, where an arrow fired horizontally (perpendicular to your own direction of motion) will retain this forward velocity in addition to its velocity in the direction it is fired.

The same has been done for other ranged weapons (crossbows) and throwing weapons. This aspect has been made somewhat more realistic in Warband, with arrow damage increasing at a greater rate with Archery skill. In the original M&B, it took quite a bit of Archery skill leveling before 1- or 2-hit kills were possible.

  • The effectiveness of ranged weapons has been improved, specifically with regards to their damage potential.
  • Increasing the "Polearms" skill slightly reduces this cooldown time. After a couched lance hit, there is a cooldown timer in which time your lance cannot be re-couched.
  • Lance couching can still be performed either by building up speed and waiting for the lance to drop alternatively, the control scheme may be changed to "Manual" couching, where the lance drops at button-press (default "X").
